Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 made its long-awaited debut on 15 August 2024, six years after the hit horror-comedy Stree. The sequel became the highest opener of the year, raking in INR 76.5 crore in India on its first day.
A horror movie buffs’ delight, the sequel picks up where the first film left off, introducing a new menace in Chanderi — a headless entity named Sarkata that targets women who embrace modern lifestyles.
Not only did the film surpass expectations, but it also paved the way for the future of Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe, often referred to as the Maddock Supernatural Universe.
Now, fans are eagerly speculating whether Stree 3 is on the cards next!
So, will there be a Stree 3?
Yes, Stree 3 has already been officially renewed by the makers.
After showcasing the trailer of Stree 2 in July to the media, producer Dinesh Vijan announced that Stree 3, the third instalment in the Stree franchise, is in the works and will be released soon.
Talking about the expanding franchise, Vijan shared at the press meet, “Stree 2 is like a mothership. It answers a lot of questions that Stree 1 raised. It also tells you what the connections are. What will come next after Stree 2 will be a film called Dhaama, which we’ll tell you about later. We have already written Stree 3, so the gap will be less.”
He went on to claim Stree 2 as Maddock’s most ‘paisa wasool’ film.” He said, “One thing I can tell you about Stree 2 is it is bigger, madder and crazier. The trailer is only 10 per cent because it has a lot of visual effects in it and we want to leave that for the theatre. But if you come in, it is Maddock’s most paisa vasool film.”
What could be the plot of Stree 3?
In Stree 2’s climax, Akshay Kumar makes a shocking cameo. Turns out, his character is a descendant of Sarkata and in the final scene, we see him inhaling the powers of the evil entity.
So, if Kumar continues to star in this universe, fans may see him play the main villain in Stree 3. Additionally, as Stree (Kapoor) leaves in the climax, she transfers her powers to Vicky (Rao), which means that Vicky will now have a more important role in the horror comedy universe.
Also, a key cameo byVarun Dhawan’s Bhediya in Stree 2 alludes to the introduction of vampires in the franchise with the upcoming film, Vampires of Vijay Nagar. It will star Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles and they will play a pivotal role in developing the Maddock Supernatural Universe.
However, all of this is mere speculation as of now and the main plot of Stree 3 hasn’t been revealed as yet.
Who will be in the cast of Stree 3?
The cast for Stree 3 hasn’t been announced officially yet. Still, Akshay Kumar is being speculated to make a return for a key role and play the villain in the film alongside the main cast that includes Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana.
The film may also have another cameo from Varun Dhawan, who had a special appearance in Stree 2 as well
Do we have a release date for Stree 3?
Since the producer has already confirmed that the script for Stree 3 is ready, we assume that once the whole buzz around Stree 2 settles down, the cast members will take a short gap and start shooting for the next instalment.
Also, as we mentioned Dinesh Vijan has confirmed that the gap between Stree 2 and Stree 3 will be less. So, until an exact release date is announced, fans can expect Stree 3 to be released sometime towards the end of 2025 or early 2026.
Do we have a trailer or teaser for Stree 3?
No, the film is yet to go on the floors and fans can expect a teaser or trailer only once the production starts.
